It is not more time that we need, it is a more efficient way to use what it is that we already have. Achieve more and do less with good Time Management.
Good time management is an excellent way to improve our quality of life. If we do the things we have to do in a more efficient manner, we are then left with much more time to do the things that we choose to do. We cannot create more time, but we can use the time we have in a much more efficient manner.
With good use of our time, we can reduce stress considerably, by learning to deal with problems while they are small, we can avoid much higher stress emergencies at a later date. For example, don’t wait until the car breaks down to fix it. This is going to be very stressful when you wake up one morning and the car doesn’t start. No, don’t let it get to this point. Schedule regular services. A little time and money invested today can save you a lot of time and money tomorrow.
With good time management we create more leisure time. If we organize a plan and execute it efficiently, the amount of time we create is incredible.
There are four basic tools here that can help immediately in this.
Get a planner or calendar, and use it. Plan ahead of time and write it down. This will organize and focus us in a very good way. Less will be left to chance or overlooked.
Learn to delegate. Determine the tasks that can be done by another and then delegate them out. Whether it be at home or at work, there are always going to be tasks that are delegated out. This is what great managers do. Don’t work harder, work smarter.
Deal with issues when they arise. Problems do not just go away, ever. Generally speaking, they get bigger. What is an inconvenience today may well turn into a crisis tomorrow. Procrastination is certainly our enemy.
Prioritize. Sounds simple and it is. We cannot put off the things that we must do, in order to do the things that we want to do. List the tasks to be done in order of priority, then start at the top.
These are a few basic tips to get you going. Any time spent learning time management is an investment well made. Probably the best study available on this is 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. An excellent and complete work containing everything you need to know to become a great time manager, as well as other fantastic tips for success in general. Highly recommended.
