How can you reconcile these??

Someone who avoids what's going on in the world as a matter of policy is a jackass. Jackasses might feel better than I do, but I have the comfort of knowing that at least I'm not a jackass.

I'm a relentless optimist, by the way. But people who think it's OK to shove their heads in the sand piss me off.
